It’s Thursday and after classes we went to Pobla de Farnales where we met with Santi for another Surf lesson! This time there were some good waves and we had such a laugh trying to stand up on the surf boards! Everyone managed to do it by the end of the lesson and it felt great!! I think I’ve found a new hobby!
After surfing we met Carla at Port Splaya, the Little Venice of Valencia, we had lots of fun making a few videos in which we got to show off our level of Spanish as Carla interviewed us about our experience here in Valencia. There were plenty of laughs and out-takes before we nailed it!
Tonight is the celebration of San Juan where all over Spain, people go to the beach to celebrate the shortest night of the year and to burn the old and welcome the new as it is the official beginning of summer! People make small ‘hogueras’ (bonfires) on the beach and at 12 midnight everyone wets their feet in the sea to welcome in the new, then they write their wishes on a piece of paper, next they burn it in the small bonfire before jumping over the fire three times! We were so tired after surfing that we didn’t actually go to the beach for the celebrations..maybe next year!
