Today is Thursday. It’s the fourth day of class and the guys really seem to be enjoying these and learning a lot of Spanish. They are in groups with students from around the world and so they also have the opportunity to make new international friends through Spanish. They then have their second class focused on exam oral work with Ana. This class is very enjoyable for the students as Ana makes it as interactive as possible.
When the class with Ana finished, we had a bit of free time before meeting up with the rest of the students for the afternoon’s activities. We went for a short walk where we stopped in one of the famous Mercadona’s (Spanish supermarket chain). This shop always seems to be a hit with the Irish students. After a quick browse, we headed towards the meet-up point.
When we got there we waited for all of the students to arrive before heading on the tram to La Playa Malvarosa (Malvarosa beach). Ulan is lucky that she lives so close to it with her host family. It is a beautiful beach just a few stops away. What amazed us about the beach, in particular, was the sand – it’s incredibly soft and nothing like the coarse sand at home in Ireland. Ulan and David decided that they wanted to go for a walk by the sea and test out the water. After a few hours of lying by the sea and playing volleyball, everyone was exhausted and ready to head back to the host families covered in a layer of sand.
We took the metro back and everyone went their separate ways home. I, on the other hand, had organised to meet with my host family from 2 years ago for dinner. I took the metro to their apartment and was greeted with a warm welcome back. We chatted for hours and enjoyed the traditional Spanish tortilla de patatas. It was great catching up with them and I can’t wait for the next time.
