Spanish courses in Spain for Irish secondary school students


The Centre of Spanish Studies in Valencia extends a warm welcome to students arriving for our May 2024 Transition year intensive course. This course runs for a total of three weeks from May 11th until June 1st 2024, allowing students to end their transition year on a linguistic academic note.

We welcome transition year students from secondary schools across Ireland, benefiting from the direct flights from both Dublin and Cork routes to Valencia. Currently the Cork route operates 4 days per week and the Dublin route operates 6 days per week, which gives our students lots of options to join our course. As with all our courses, a Css representative travelled over with the students on the Dublin flight.

Day one of the course will see the students take a level test with teachers Irene and Vallí to assess the students level and learning goals. The level test incorporates both a written and oral exam.
This immersive program was designed to provide Irish students with a unique blend of language learning and cultural experiences, fostering both academic growth and personal development.

The students further enhance their learning with a busy planned afternoon schedule. Every afternoon the students partake in organised activities allowing them the opportunity to embrace the cultural experience, forge strong relationships with their classmates and get practical use of the Spanish language.

For the May course, they will start with a walking tour of the city visiting the iconic sites of Torres de Serranos, La Plaza del Ayuntamiento and Valencia Nord station, while meandering through the old windy streets of El Carmen. The old town of Valencia offers narrow streets with many small plazas offering small cafes, tapas bars and craft stores for the group to walk to explore.
During the May afternoon schedule, the students will partake in a wide variety of plans including physical activities such as indoor wall climbing challenge, kayaking through the rocky Riba Roja and biking through the dry riverbed of the Turia River. Cultural activities include guided tour of the historic centre, visit to the Valencia CF football stadium full of history and wonder. The students also explored their artistic side with an outdoor art workshop; visited the City of Arts & Sciences interactive museum and visited one of Europe’s largest aquarium Oceanographic.

We look forward to 3 weeks of intensive Spanish learning, forging new relationships with Spanish host families and delving into Spanish life in Valencia.
